Vehicular accident kills Montgomery County teacher

A woman lost her life in a two-vehicular collision that happened in Jeffersonville, Kentucky on the morning of Friday, November 20.

The victim was identified as 51-year-old Mapleton Elementary School teacher Sheila Huff Baker, who had been teaching science at the school in Montgomery County for three-and-a-half years. Baker had also worked for the school for the school district for ten years, a press release from the Montgomery County Schools stated.

According to Montgomery County Sheriff Fred Shortridge, the accident occurred at around 7:00 in the morning at the intersection of U.S. Route 460 and Kentucky Highway 599, located just southeast of Mount Sterling.

Preliminary investigations showed that Baker, who had been operating a minivan at the time of the incident, was in the process of making a left turn onto U.S. Route 460. She pulled in front of a pickup truck traveling east on 599, and was struck by the man’s vehicle. The truck driver was not harmed in the incident.
