Lexington Medical Device Lawyers

Medical devices have become integral to the practice of modern medicine. Unfortunately, these powerful tools often come with dangerous side effects, in some cases, worse than the problem the device is meant to treat. In the worst cases, medical devices may place users at risk of suffering permanent physical harm or even death. Therefore, the manufacturers of dangerous medical devices may be held liable for the damaging effects their products can have on users.

Medical device manufacturers make billions of dollars on their products, and when these products cause unsuspecting individuals to suffer serious harm, they need to be held accountable. At Wilson & McQueen, PLLC, our Lexington legal team knows just how severe the effects of dangerous medical devices can be, and we know what it takes to hold the manufacturers of these products accountable for the harm they have caused.

Defective Medical Devices

Dangerous medical devices have the capacity to cause users to suffer a remarkably wide range of different types of harm, and far too many of these products make it into patients’ health care plans every year. At Wilson & McQueen, PLLC, we are ready to represent individuals who have suffered after using any of the following:

Laparoscopic Power Morcellators

Wilson & McQueen is currently reviewing cases of women who underwent uterine fibroid removal through use of laparoscopic power morcellators and subsequently were diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma cancer (cancerous uterine fibroids), a gynecologic cancer or occult malignancy.

Hernia Mesh

Prior to a voluntary recall in May 2016, Johnson & Johnson Ethicon Physiomesh® Flexible Composite Mesh was used to strengthen weakened and damaged tissue in hernia repairs. A pair of unpublished studies conducted by Herniamed German Registry and Danish Hernia Database determined that Ethicon hernia mesh failed at higher rates compared to that of other similar hernia repair products. Wilson & McQueen is reviewing potential claims of patients who suffered infections, hernia recurrence, pain and other symptoms as a result of Ethicon hernia mesh.

IVC Filters

IVC filters are small, cage-like devices designed to be implanted in the inferior vena cava (IVC) to prevent blood clots moving from the lower body to the lungs or heart. Patients who are at risk of developing blood clots, but who are not candidates for blood thinner medication, often have IVC filters implanted. Wilson & McQueen is reviewing cases with complications and/or positive product ID of all Bard or Cook medical retrievable filters.

Essure is a hysteroscopic sterilization procedure, a type of tubal sterilization that does not require an incision. Wilson & McQueen is reviewing potential claims involving women who underwent the procedure and have experienced side effects such as chronic pelvic pain, ectopic pregnancy, migration of the device or a device component, puncture or tear of the uterus or colon, severe migraines and allergic reactions, additional surgeries including hysterectomies, or who have died following the procedure. The FDA has added a black box warning and is requiring Bayer to conduct a clinical study.

Talcum Powder

Frequent, long-term use of talcum powder on the genitals and perineal area, including on sanitary napkins, has been associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer. Wilson & McQueen is reviewing talc cases.

Ethicon Stapler

Surgeons use specialized staplers to close internal and external wounds. In 2019, the FDA issued a Class 1 recall of a surgical stapler manufactured by Ethicon, Inc., which is a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. The recall happened after reports of the Ethicon Circular Stapler causing severe injury and death to patients.
